Panta rei
My Milan is the name of the album this photo is taken from. Luca Napoli took this photograph called Panta rei, which means: cannot stop two times the same movement. This photograph is perfect in capturing Szarkowski's element of time. She says this is two shots overlapped, unsure of how she did this though. The man is ghost-like, transparent in both moments. The balance in this picture is also very good, although the man occupies only the left side. The beams, rails, and hallway are even, and frame the man very nicely, even if he is not centered. The sky and the mans white shirt contrast the dark of his jacket, glass, and the hallway. The photograph elicits melancholy emotion for me, through the man's solitude.
